In short
- Your game data lives on your phone. Smeps has no account, and it doesn't ask for your email address or phone number. You can give a name and a character if you like, but they stay on your phone.
- When you ask for planning (a quest, a section, a routine, Kit's trick, ideas), we send the content of the request to an AI. The AI gets no information about who you are.
- No ads. Your data is never sold or handed over for marketing.
What data is processed and why
| Data | Where | Why | Kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| Game state: smeps, quests, check-offs, memos, album, settings, your own name and character | Only on your phone | Running the game | Until you delete the app or reset the game |
| Anonymous user ID | On the server (Supabase, EU) | Signing in without an account, preventing abuse | For as long as the app is used |
| Content of a planning request: goal, timeline, the profile answers and dreams you chose, first names of and relationships to people you add to a quest, smep titles, latest ratings and feelings ("How did it go"), the change wishes you give a quest, and the names of finished quests and why they ended | Sent to an AI service for the duration of the request | Planning quests and smeps | Not stored on our server. The AI service handles the request under its own terms. |
| Titles of smeps and quests, for picking a picture | Sent to the server and to embedding and decision services | Picking a fitting picture from the picture bank | Not stored, except the missing-picture list below |
| Missing-picture list: the title of a smep for which no picture was found. Capitalised words after the first are removed (e.g. names). | On the server | Making new pictures | Until the picture is made or the entry is dismissed |
| AI usage (time and type) | On the server | Daily limits and cost control | 12 months |
| App version and platform | On the server | Targeting update needs and notices | Latest value only |
| Backup checksum (no content) and counts | On the server | Checking that a backup is genuine when it is restored | 12 months |
| Technical log data, including IP address | In the technical logs of the server and intermediary services, and in the logs of the smeps.app web server (netcup, Germany) | Security and troubleshooting. It is not linked to the game. | The service provider's log retention period. The website logs rotate, and the oldest are deleted automatically. |
| Push token (if you allow notifications) | On the server | Notices and reminders | Until you turn notifications off or the token has been unused for 12 months |
Evening reminders are scheduled on the phone itself. Their schedule never goes to the server.
Processors
- Supabase (server and database, EU region Frankfurt).
- OpenRouter (a US-based routing service) and through it the AI models: Anthropic (Claude Haiku), with Google (Gemini) as a fallback. Embeddings: Google. Picture selection: TypeSafe (Jev). Transfers outside the EU are based on the providers' standard contractual clauses.
- Expo / EAS (app updates and delivering push notifications).
- netcup (server for the smeps.app website, Germany).
- Runware (drawing the picture bank's pictures). No player data is sent to Runware.
Legal bases
- Providing the game and planning is delivering the service you asked for.
- Preventing abuse, usage limits and cost control are based on legitimate interest.
- Notifications are sent only if you allow them.
Your rights
You can ask for access to your data, correction or deletion. As the app has no account, the data on the server is linked only to an anonymous ID. You can find the ID in the app's settings if needed. You can export your game as a backup file from the Me page, and you can object to the processing of your data. Deleting the app deletes the data on your phone. You can lodge a complaint with the Finnish Data Protection Ombudsman (tietosuoja.fi).
Age limit
Smeps is meant for people aged 13 and over.
Changes
When the way the app processes data changes, we tell you in the app before you continue playing.
